[TheForge] Running a torch

I've been sorely disapointed with "regular" oxy prop rigs known as
conversion tips. The All States torch is designed from the regulator to the
tip to burn propane and there's NO comparison. Well, actually you CAN
compare anything so here's a quick head to head I did in a failed attempt to
get the State to save a few bucks. As part of the head to head we melted a 1
cu/in piece of mild steel one with the oxy acet rosebud and a second one
with the All States "Heater" tip essentially a slightly smaller rosebud than
the oxy acet one in the faceoff. The results were, All States melted 1
cu/in, HR mild steel in just under 13 seconds from an Alaskan winter cold
start. The oxy acet rosebud hadn't turned one half red in nearly 20 seconds
but melted it in about 35 seconds. Not bad but . . .
Part of the reason the All States rig does so well on dirty/rusty steel is
because the oxy is at a higher psi and moving like a skalded dog so very
little can get blown back and plug a jet. For a negative effect the dirt
(not rust, DIRT) needs to completely cover the steel thickly enough it won't
move when melted and exposed to the oxy jet.
Look around in your area for an all States distributer and get a demo,
that's how I discovered they actually work and are nothing like the
conversion rigs.
