[TheForge] Enamel for iron

Kevin,

Howell Ironworks (aka, Historic Allaire Village) made enameled
ironware, and I believe the enamel used was a clay-like substance,
rather than simply a glass enamel. Perhaps they have documentation in
the library at the village.

I don't know whether I have any other information in my own library,
but if you run into a roadblock, let me know and I will check.

I have heard that one of the modern enamel companies (Thomas?
Thompson?) makes a glass enamel suitable for iron.

Probably the most common modern application is for iron bathtubs, in
case that helps. I recall reading about the process somewhere, but I
don't recall where.
