I've got a piece of silicon carbide as the floor of my gas forge. I can't see any damage to it over 4 or more years of use. I got mine for free when the art dept at school had some kiln shelving that cracked and they gave it to me. Like you, I cut it with a masonry saw. As for what it's worth, the Chile Forge in Texas is selling pieces 7" by 12" or 7 by 16 for $25 or 35 each.

Kinda fishing around here...The story....
An old friend died a while back, he was a potter and a packrat in the
grand sense of the word.
A mutual friend bought the property and is cleaning it out for his own
mess. I just returned from there with a flatbed of bedframes.
One of the stacks in the yard he wants to sell consists of 1" thick
carbide kiln shelves, about 2'X 2'. I'd guess there are about 30 of them
more or less. They are all mildly warped.
I've had part of one as a floor for my Sandia forge and it seems
unchanged by the heat. I cut it with a carbide masonry disk..scoring on
both sides, then breaking it off.
These puppies are not light and were gawdawful expensive new.
Any idea what they are worth? Any interest from you guys in some of
them? Any suggestions?
They are in Old Edna, near San Luis Obispo in central CA...pete
