Actually there is NOT consensus. That term you used "responsible scientists" is one of many descriptors used to denigrate those who have not accepted the pablum of the global warming alarmists. 30,000 years ago Detroit was under a mile of ice... I figure it's been warming on average, ever since, and it wasn't caused buy evil SUVs.
How do the global warmists explain the average warming on Mars? It was rather convenient the moniker changed from global warming to "climate change" when the average temperature for the past 10 years went down. The climate is ALWAYS changing.. It always has, it always will. It was changing long before future humans climbed out of the primordial muck.
I have one question for those who think we humans are causing the destruction of the earth via climate change. Exactly what is the optimum temperature of the earth? Should it be cooler than it is now? Warmer? By how much? Until you can answer that question you do not have enough information to act in any meaningful way.
