I have used a stock tank heater and it worked, the tub in the historic
shop at new salem is a half barrel and I am sure it froze solid last
year as there is no heat at all in the shop. I was there last week and
it already had an inch of ice on it. It has never broken that I know
of, the old one failed because it was half in the ground and rotted,
and that took at least 20 years.
