I've taken advantage of this. Some indoor gates had about 95 or 100
degrees of swing and were mounted a calculated tad out of plumb. If
intentionally opened more than 90 deg, they would hit a stop and stay
open. If opened less than 90 deg -- typical use -- they would close
under their own weight. So no spring or other complicated closer was
required. Tapered roller bearings on the pintles made this work
reliably.
