Bob, I think the the # 3 refers to the "seam" and not the mine number. The
Pocahontas formation covers a very large area and many mines work the
various seams of this formation. (I think I have this right or at least
close.)
The story about "a mine" being sold and that mines supply no longer on the
USA market I believe to be correct -- as the Folk School has the same issue.
Paul Garrett is working on solving this problem for the Folk School and I
will find out what he knows about a new supply of quality blacksmithing
coal.
