The lodge is on the south face of Mt Hood near Portland OR. It was built as a WPA project in the 1930's. 

The iron work was produced by O. B. Dawson. The team included many smiths if varying skill levels.

 In the 1970's Russell Maugans started restoration and some additions, such as handrails,  to bring the building up to code.

In the 80's, Darryl Nelson took an interest and became the lodge's smith in1989.

He is currently the director of blacksmithing there. 

I took most of that information from a flier for "Blacksmith Week" to be held at the lodge Aug 18 - 22. www.artcabins.org. They also list www.mthoodmuseum.org. 


It was an unplanned visit on my trip, but I really enjoyed seeing it. The little newsreel they showed explained more than I could cover here.
