Kalamazoo grinders, both the 1 x 42 and 2 x 48 are good grinders (I have
both) the 1 x 42 is good for light and delicate work. Also good for wood.
(The high speed 2 x 48 burns wood). I like the 1 x 42 for finishing work
and sharping. ( I use up to 400 grit belts on it.) The 2 x 48 is a real
work horse / stock removal. Because of its speed at 3450 it is tough to do
finish work on heat treated items without burning. As I said I like both,
but for different reasons. I have use both in classes I teach at John C.
Campbell Folk School (I move my own units to the school) and they have held
up well under student use which is saying a lot.
