For a lot of work the marks will make no difference if there is an area 
over the body of the anvil that is relatively clear.

Did you ever see the POS that Simmons had in his shop?
In an interview he walked them through the shop.
There was a piece the size of a medium grapefruit bust clear out of the 
side of the face and body.
He obviously still found it usable.

Most of the time I am only actually using the center of an area about 
four square inches.
