"bimbo" is the slang short form of bambino.
I have spent a fair amount of time in Italy, some of it with my own  
bambino's, and heard numerous real live italians call my, and other  
kids, "bimbo".

I know, in Italian, "bimbo" is slang for  a baby, usually a male baby.
