I have had people pretend to be dumb. But in dealing with them, it turned
out that they were -dumb- like a fox.
I gathered that they play dumb to gain an advantage.
So, rather than jump to conclusions, I try to see others in the light...
as if their brains work, as least as well as mine.
After a number of experiences like that, I also tried some role playing.
Sometimes I can really get into the "good old boy" -- persona -- , and it
really is amazing to see first hand, how differently others treat someone
that they believe has a mentality with a flickering flame.
When I can pull off the role playing, I find that people do treat me a
lot differently.
Some are especially kindly and helpful.
Some would take advantage of the dummy.
My gifted blonde daughter dyed her hair light brown during highschool, and
she kept brown all of the way through college and into her career. I have
read where a lot of women do that as a way of dealing with stereo types.
