Here i am with more contradictory advice.
It sounds like you have all the information you need.
Take the research time and spend it at the forge. Assume you'll make
some mistakes while you are trying to figure it out.
You will learn a heck of a lot more and the product will have a lot more
heart.
Last, may i suggest horse shoe nails for a more interesting result..pf
