Resistance is dependent on length of the wire here. The farther you 
stretch it, the bigger the wire needed...the difference is lost as heat.
There are formulas and tables to calc the figures easily available.
In the past when i had an urgent need to supply juice at a long reach, 
i've ganged up all my HD extension cords in groups and connected them to 
each  side of the wire run to cut down on resistance. Yes..careful 
labeling helps avoid smoke.
My top of the head guess is that you'll get away with it using #10 wire 
IF you only weld for short intervals, allowing the wire to cool, and 
don't keep the pedal to the metal.
Expect some diminished power at the welder, so you'll probably have to 
dial it up some to compensate.
