I bought a used O/A setup, with torch, tips, hoses, cart, and, for
some reason a MIG tank that I swapped for an O2 tank. Since I have
propane at home, I'm in the same boat. I can't add to the suggestions
for using the cutter and welding/brazing tips for localized heat.
Those work very well. I found I needed a propane cutting tip, as I
couldn't get good performance from the acetylene tip, but I can get
all but the smallest brazing tip to light, with a little patience.
However, the kit also came with a rosebud. I had a project that
involved lots of bending of 5/8 round and wanted to use the rosebud,
as it's quite a bit lighter, and shorter, than than a cutting torch.
It took some time to figure out how to get it lit, but once I had the
technique down, it's fairly easy. So an acetylene tip will work on
propane, if you run across a flea market one for cheap.
