This sounds more flexable than I thought.  It would help to see one in use. 
I still think I like coal better.

I'll be the first to tell you I am biased, since I also sell induction
heaters, but in regard to fitting a piece of stock back into a coil I
would add this; the classic definition of coil has to be stretched somewhat.
Picture a taco shell folded in half, them do the same thing to a flat
coil and you have an open sided 'flat' coil into which stock can be
inserted from the side. Flat ( like a disk) coils also work to a degree,
and many times you can locally heat a spot by placing the work next the
open end of a standard circular coil.
I have formed hairpin 'coils' similar to a bobby pin that you can use to
heat the edge of a blade without heating the rest of it.
The most important tool other than proper bending and plumbing
techniques is the use of an frequency meter to measure the frequency
that the induction heater has selected to insure that it falls in the
range of the heater.
I don't know what the source of the tiny little iron ball's that I use
to form the coils (they mike out to .0025") is, but I anneal the copper
tubing, fill the dry pipe with the tiny iron balls (tlb's) bend the
tubing to whatever coil shape I want then pour out the tlb's and flare
the ends and you gotta coil.
I still like coal and gas, don't have the experience with charcoal like
Roger to have an opinion, but for a quick heat or a complicated shapes
and instant heat the induction heater is a great tool to have. Like any
tool it won't be the only one.
