My steel supplier will sell me 1" mechanical tubing, 16 gage (1/16"
wall) that makes a perfect candle cup- as most commercial candles are
7/8" in diameter, thats what you want for an ID.
This tubing is seamed- that is, there is a tiny burr on the inside-
but nice and smooth on the outside.
One twenty footer makes a LOT of candlesticks- I often use 1" long
pieces- so I havent bought any in a few years, but it wasnt very
expensive.
I sure hate using galvanized stuff for anything- its nasty, dangerous,
and messy.
I really prefer a nice cold rolled tubing with nothing smoking and
burning off.

If you can find it 1 inch OD hydraulic tubing makes great candle
cups. If
you know a shop that does large off road equipment or industrial
hydraulics
they might have drops for free or nearly free. It is seamless,
doesn't have
a zinc coating to deal with and works like a dream. Buying new, it
cost a
lot more than EMT. I use EMT (3/4 inch) to make ferrules for wood
working
tool handles.
