My wife's identity was stolen, and we are trying to track down the low life
who did it.
After many phone calls- most of them worthless- we know that the perp got a
VISA card issued in my wife's name and our at address, with the last 4
digits 6772. They are also ordering stuff shipped to our address . This
makes me believe that it is a computer savy local druggie.
Can't find the bank that issued it or the rest of the numbers to cancell it.
The perps email address is brobinsone at aol.com. Any suggestions how to
discover info on that address with out alerting them. The local police don't
have much to use.
Most calls refer us to Equifax etc., but they want our card cancellation
request in writing, so this is going to drag on, while we rely on snail
mail.

Have whoever is working on the case, cops wise, contact AOL. Though likely he used some bogus name etc., for his payment, at least it can give a clue as to what direction to look, and possibly he is using the same email address for other cards.
Good luck.

i am sorry to hear that this has happened. this is not good and may take
several years to clean up. this is the primary reason that i do not have
any credit cards. i either use cash or check.
i know that some low life has attempted to steal my identity but they
were nailed when the credit report came back with a negative credit
score. my credit score will never see positive side . after 12+ yrs
living as a pauper and then having $550,000.00 usd in medical liens
slapped on me over the head-on-collision which was not my fault. even
though the medical service providers were dealt with according to the
state of illinois health care services lien act they are still listing
over $450,000.00 usd in liens against me. i will never pay them it will
take 7 yrs for those liens to be removed strictly because of the time
limit. my credit reports are a joke. i have requested my annual free
report from trw and there are several credit inquires listed that i know
i did not cause to happen. i have sent letters to all three big credit
reporting agencies requesting that they notify me of any credit inquires
because they are all attempts to steal my identity.
had one person attempt to use my social security number to file for ssi
and social security disability. the dumb low life did not figure on
being told that i had not worked in the last 13 yrs and therefore did
not have any work credits towards social security disability. last i
heard the feds had that low life in the chicago metro lockup.
the bottomline is to have a really bad credit score so no one will be
able to steal your identity.

As someone who intends on owning a house at some point, I can't help be
think that this advice only works if you have nothing to lose, and no
intention of ever gaining anything beyond your immediate cash means. Not to
mention that apartment/house rentals are often tied to credit rating, for
good or ill. This is bad advice, Terry.
This is akin to burning down your home so that no one could steal from
you... :-?

Has any merchandise ordered with that card actually shown up at your
address? If so the merchant will have the card # and other info on the
purchase. The trick will be in getting them to disclose it to you, the
local police may be helpful in getting them to open up.

all my vehicles are owned outright.

for 13+yrs i had nothing to lose. now i have something to lose.
given that i could burn money at the rate of $5,000.00 usd per month for
the next 20 years and still have more than enough money in the bank.
i do not care about my credit score. i do not need to care about my
credit score.

it is not bad advice. it is partial good advice.
the best economics is to live on a cash only basis.
the borrower is a slave to the lender.

On the orders that merchants called to verify delivery we were able to
cancel the orders. We have no idea what's in the pipeline for delivery that
merchants don't require confirmation.
A clerk at our local drug store said that she went thru about the same
thing several month's ago; by the time she became aware of the problem,
there was already many thousands of $$ charged on the card. She had to go
to court to settle each individual venders suit.
So unless you have your mattress stuffed with money like Terry, you are all
potential targets.

Saw this on craigslist, no way I could move it.
But at the price, you might even make a buck scrapping it.
