[TheForge] gas powered cutoff saw

Bruce is right about the gas powered cut off saws. I have a HF electric 14 cut off saw and it works great for most of my projects, but I don't cut cinder blocks with mine, mostly rebar, steel stock that I have and with changing the blade the occasional red brick.

For bigger projects or a lot of cut work, I use a metal cutting bandsaw with fluid cooling.

If I need to cut cinder blocks, I put an abrasive blade in my Porter Cable 7 1/4 circular saw, it takes a little longer than a specialized saw, but for the occasional cuts I have to do it works fine for me.

There is no one saw that does everything, gasoline powered saw can be a problem if you don't do regular maintenace and you should not use them in confined spaces.

Jerry

You have to change blades between steel and bricks.

I don't know how much you have to do, but I'd try using an angle
grinder first.  If that won't do the job, then scale upwards.  I've
never had need for more than a 4.5" angle grinder, though I'm not
doing what you plan.

I use a 14" electric cut-off saw in the shop - much cheaper than this
gas-powered job.  (It could cut brick with the right blade.)  It's
probably also lighter weight, but not intended to cut below grade.
Bricks would have to be placed on its bed for cutting.

OTOH, I'm not real keen on gas engines.  They're finicky and need
care.  Electric motors don't.
