I've been using Sketch Up for about 6 months now (bought the pro
version, so I could export files to my CNC guy). It's been fantastic.
I have no experience with CAD programs, but can use Sketch Up quite
well because it's visual-based, not number based. Draw a square, pull
it to a rectangle, punch a cylinder through it. Bam! Professional 3-D
models. And the Drawmetal plug-ins are great. It's the only way I
created a model of the trophy I made for a nearby university:

Hooray, Google! Thank you, Drawmetal LLC.
