hello;

i have been researching the 10 hp and greater air compressors . what i
am finding are a wide selection of duplex and several quadplex air
compressors.

the duplex are basically two independent air compressors mounted to a
common air receiver. the individual units are generally greater than or
equal to 5 hp. i have come across two units which have 2 10hp units.

the air compressors cycle on at different pressure settings and at
different flow rates. the theory is that most of the time you do not
need to cycle an 2X hp air compressor on to meet the demand. save energy
and wear-n-tear on the machine by cycling on just an X hp air
compressor.

i have found a reasonablly priced 30 hp quadplex air compressor. it
would stay within the 50 percent duty cycle with the plasma cutter
being used, and various pneumatic hand tools being used at the same
time. this unit is 4 7.5 hp units. mounted to a common air receiver.
it is available in either 240 volt single phase or 240 volt 3-phase.
it is recommended that this unit have its own machinary room to isolate
the noise.

i am thinking that i could basically build a quadplex by purchasing 4
7.5 hp 240 volt, 3 phase air compressors over a period of time. purchase
two to start off and next year add another one and the next year add the
4th unit.

there are the rotary screw air compressors to consider. less noise is
the main advantage that i have been able to find so far.

does anyone have a rotary screw air compressor? how does it compare to
the reciprocating air compressors?

well once again i am nodding off to sleep while typing. i need to crawl
off to bed.
