the japanese have been at this for thousands of years as you see visiting tool museums. They have turning forks that are right angle to the shaft, used like a mattock. strange on the other side of the world they make saws that cut on the pull stroke and sit without chairs. parallel development is much less likely with the homogenizing influence of the internet.
