John,  it would be interesting to know if they would still work following a 
temper at 212 F.  Why 212 F - well that is a boiling water temper.  We used 
to use that on some very very hard foil mill rolls.  It would keep very high 
hardness but give some mesure of increased toughness.  In that case the 
steel wasn't W1, but a alloy steel with 5 percent chrome.
