Henceforth i will uphold the tradition of repairing my welding shield 
with proper duct tape

Speaking of which...there is aluminum foil tape with butyl rubber 
adhesive currently used for duct work. It can be had in a wide range of 
sizes , thicknesses and amounts of adhesive. It stands up to exterior 
exposure passably. Very handy stuff.
Oh yeah, it is metal...kinda..pf
