Omnes festinatio ex parte diaboli est. [1]

Bert Shaw (PhD), in response to a braggart antiquarian who claimed to
be able to date any antique, forged (in both senses) a colonial door
latch from an old piece of wrought iron. He carefully filed in/off
and polished a century or two of wear in the right places and then put
the think under the down spout by the house for a year. The braggart
later confidently confirmed that it was 300 years old.

What's the rush? :-)

If my car is any indicator, spray it with brine a couple of times a
day and keep it in a warmish place. Or -- just guessing here --
follow the usual instructions for electrocleaning but use brine
instead of bicarbonate. Try both polarities.
