There are several tough, abrasion resistant steels commonly used. The
name Astralloy comes to mind.
When they wear, if heavily worn, the bulk is sometimes built back up
with a tough base steel,in either case, the wear faces are built up with
hardfacing...rods for such are easily available at any welding supply.
Now-a-days, operators commonly just buy new teeth instead.
I do not speak with much authority on this.
I have used several, old and new ones , for anvil stakes and the like.
