Using a 20lb propane bottle I remove the valve , cut off the collar and ring
,  then set the bottle on the used coals on the BBQ.  This heats all the
nasties in the bottom and they burn as the exit the bottle.  It also removes
the paint from the bottle.  I use  flap sander to remove the rest f the
paint and then the bottle is ready to be marked up to cut the ends off to
make a forge or furnace.
