People say that building a mechanical power hammer is almost as easy as
building a treadle hammer. They seem to like Clay Spencer's tire hammer
plans. And while not the most powerful hammer in the world, the Rusty is
also popular. I know of one who combined the two - A Rusty for the springs
and linkage, with a spare tire clutch.
The treadle hammer was perfect for me, but it sounds like you'd be better
off with a powered one.
