Apparently in Pennsylvania.

Have a look at his treadle hammer.  It looks like he took a lot of
pointers from the Blacker hammer, including the capacity to move the
hammer head right/left over the anvil face.  Cool.

(The Blacker hammer is one of the coolest pieces of hare-brained
Victorian British engineering I've ever seen.  Especially the wide,
side-to-side tracking version with the special English-pattern anvil.
This is the same Brit genius to think up impossible devices and then
make them work that have us Thomas Newcomen and his Invention for Raising
Water by Fire at the beginning of the 18th century.)
