It is all relative on how much you want a power hammer and how soon.
I would never pay that much but then I have paid as little as $5 for a 25#
LG but then I used to see hossfeld benders with 2 cream cans of dies sell
for $50.
Here in MN where there used to be at least one power hammer every 10 miles
or less. Those days are gone and I have not bought one for 5 years or so
having bid $650 sight unseen a couple of times and still not gotten it.

Even a hammer in poor shape might be capable to be ran as a hobby hammer for
your lifetime with out spending much on it. Again it goes to how bad you
want a hammer and how soon.
This is also depending on where you live as the further you are from plow
country the less hammers there were.

It also depends on how your resources are for building a shop made air, tire
or other shop made hammer. If you have to pay to have one made for you this
hammer may be cheap.

Having both mechanical hammers and an air hammer I prefer the air hammer.
It has more space between the dies for tooling or hand held top tooling. A
LG does not have this advantage. You can use some but it is limited.

Either way flat dies are the way to go in my opinion.

After posting photos, I've only gotten Bob's opinion, that I should
only buy it if I'm looking to invest lots of time and money making it
functional. Any other thoughts out there?
