In 1969, when we moved here, two planes went over every day, the
Halifax-Boston run in each direction.
But we're on the great circle flyway from NY/NJ and Heathrow (and
other European places.)
Fast forward 30 years. Just before 9/11, there was at least one plane
in the sky all the time in the late evening and early night. As one
set of lights disappeared into the haze and the rumble faded, another
was just becoming visible. At the beginning and end of weekends,
there were, typically, several planes in sight at once for hours,
presumably weekly commuters taking the red-eye one way or the other.
It hasn't recovered to quite the same level now but it's getting
there.
