[TheForge] local codes

About 10 years ago, I built a Ren Faire booth in the Kansas.
The building inspector was tough, but helpful. However because so many
of the booths were built by other than full- time / professional
carpenters, she informed us, that any work completed / closed in beyond
the stage that she pre-authorized, would have to be torn out again. She
inspected the construction progress multiple times.

As I recall, part of her set of codes required that the rafters be
anchored with "hurricane" straps. I may be using the wrong word now.
Anyway, the straps had to be affixed with special high strength
"hurricane" nails ( we couldn't use "deck screws" for example ).

For the Ren Faire also had their own set of regs that we had to comply
with. For example, they wanted all new buildings to have very steep roofs
for a Ren Faire look. They mandated that we have a 20/12 roof pitch,
and cedar shake shingles.

It was a frustrating code "learning" experience. On the other hand, that
building should be able to stand strong, as long as there is a ren faire
on site.
