Here is his reply:
What unique tool should be on board no matter what?
Channel locks? ;-)
I might say enough tools so that you can forge your own if needed. In a
pinch, regular wrenches/sockets/metal can be forged and bent for purpose.
I might say the unique tool that should be on board no matter what, is a
tool (or tools) that can be used to create the needed tool.
The tool making tools are the most important.
Other than that, it all depends on the type of engine, I'd think.
Probably most important is to label and document the use of tools after
they are created so that the next crew is less likely to discard them or
otherwise not know for what purpose they were created...
