[TheForge] Crush proof mailbox

That's pretty much what I said. Manufacturers have
specs they have to follow.

Custom boxes need to fall within accepted guidelines
and these are generally, height, distance from driving
surface / curb / pavement / cow trail, etc., I forgot
about the visibility of the flag requirement and it
needs to have a door with a catch of some sort.

Sure you can apply to the postmaster for approval of
your custom design and almost undoubtedly not get it,
OR do it the way you have to, to get anything through a
bureaucracy.

Build it, put it up and if there's something wrong with
it the carrier will let you know.

Mother retired from the PO 23 years ago and we put up a
custom box at virtually every place we lived. Every
once in a while a neighbor would complain to the PO and
the carrier would have to make a report. We'd hear
about it but that's about all. We never got a gripe
from the PO and Mother being an employee we certainly
would have if they were at all picky.

Your main concern is liability from a collision. Even
if the post is a breakaway if the mailbox can become a
dangerous projectile and it injures someone you're on
the hook.
