	One other consideration to make - if you have a breakaway post with a
heavy box, a car running into it at high-ish speed may result in a heavy
box going through a windshield. I would make the post flexible such
that an auto impact would not allow the box to become errantly wayward.
  How about a break away post with the box tightly chained to two
footings? to prevent it from becoming a flying object? Like so:

                   ___
                  /   \
                  |   |
                  |___|
                 /  |  \
                /   |   \
               /    |    \
              /     |     \
         --> /      |      \ <--chain or cable stays
                  Post

	I still think the tire idea is a good one, too.
