Have you considered just mounting the kaowool on a metal support?
Wiring it on, perhaps?  NiChrome wire would be perfect.  SS wouldn't
be a bad choice.

Rumor has it the stiffener is sodium silicate - water glass.

A kaowool-like product is available in "stiffened" condition.  Inquire
through a boiler supply house.

The ITC-100 may be overkill, unless you're working at incandescent
temperatures and wish to conserve fuel.
