This just where the thread has been going.
If it is good it is good, if not, then cut off and try a few inches down.
If you have not the time to futz around or design does not permit then
use something you can depend upon for consistency.
It would seem also that if rusting were a concern, having a consistent
alloy throughout would be an advantage.
