[TheForge] ice cleats

Last year I made a set of ice cleats since I had fallen on the ice the year
before. I've had a couple chances to use them with ice storm, and they
worked great.

With all the cold weather this year I decided that this would be a good time
to do some pond maintanance and cut down the standing dead trees that are
out in the water. I strapped on the ice cleats and went out on the ice with
my chain saw. It was really nice to have firm footing while cutting the
trees, in case I had to make a sudden move. I also wore them while cutting
the trees up, part of the time I wore them while wheeling the wood off the
ice but I ended up not wearing them while moving most of the wood because
they felt kind of odd while walking on the bare ground with cleats.

The cleats I made were the ones on the "Anvil Fire" web site. Real simple
to make. I think they were a colonial design.
