[TheForge] Christiania blackmiths

I'm always interested in blacksmiths who work in unusual locations.
At the 1990 ABANA there were a couple of guys who were set up on the
lower east side of Manhattan in a vacant lot. They had to weld their
anvil to a big chunk of something to keep it from being stolen. My
own little adventure was to put together a working forge from
collected junk on Sable Island when I spend a couple of weeks working
there.

The Free City of Christiania in Copenhagen was in the news because the
organzers of the global climate conference feared that the residents
-- anarchists, communards and the like -- would riot or at least
protest.

I hadn't been aware of Christiania. It occurred to me that such a
community was likely to have a blacksmith so I went poking around the
web. It does, indeed, have a blacksmith. In fact, it has three and
they're women!

Dorte Eilenberger, Charlotte Steen and Gitte Christensen do all sorts
of stuff. Text is all in Danish but there are lots of pics.

FWIW,
- Mike
