On the topic of gas vs diesel welder.
2 years ago I bought a Miller Trailblazer gas version. Same reasons
outlined in this thread, I could buy 2 of these for the price of 1
diesel unit. Maybe 3 or 4 of them if I considered the Lincoln SA
series. I needed 110 and 220 volt power plus the welder on a specific
job. Being retired and blacksmithing is a hobby turning business, I
don't usually buy equipment until I need it - and I don't rent unless it
is completely impractical for me to buy (last week I rented a SkyTrack
for1 hour to hang some railings on the front of a home). It is a good
little welder, and I still have less than 100 hours on it. But where I
have used it on site, the clients appreciate that I have good, reliable
equipment and aren't always wiring into their panels for power, etc.
etc. etc.
