Good idea.  Bad thing to do.

At first, a few people will attach small images.  Before long, people
who don't pay attention to image sizes will cavalierly attach 5-meg
images, then whole folios of 5 meg images.  Then flash, video, audio
(you want to hear that hammer, don't you?), then PDFs, then whatever
their favorite data formats are.  Then they'll start emailing whole
web pages, complete with cross-site URLs.

For Windows users, malware will put in an appearance, hidden in
images, flash, PDF, HTML and other formats.

Those with dial-up or other slow connections can go out to lunch while
all the pretty pictures download, thereby failing to receive in time the
3-line message worth $5k if they had read it before lunch.

And (gasp) some people, often for very good reasons, use email
software that isn't MIME- or graphics-enabled.

Workaround:

Many (most?) net access accounts include some web space.  Put your
pics there and then post the URL to the list.

There are free web-page services out there.  Sign up for some space,
put your pics there and then post the URL to the list.

Although I personally don't like or use it, every post to TheForge
contains the lines:

    TheForge mail list group photo site is
    http://www.photoaccess.com
    Login: blacksmithblacksmith at hotmail.com
    Password: anvil

It's said that, with a bit of futzing around, you can put your pics
there. Then post the URL.

And IIRC, one Genrous Person here on the list -- I forget who -- created
a web site and invited us to upload our pics to it.  Only nobody ever
used it. I can't find the URL so I don't know if it's still live or
not.  You still there, Generous Person?
