Hey Steve,
My Yurt Smithy has been thru 3 hurricanes including being at ground Zero in 
Katrina.
The uprights are 5" drill stem ( 4141 -5/8" wall pipe) and strung together 
with 3/4" double improved plow steel wire rope. The drill stem is anchored 
in 3" of reinforced concrete 6' deep.
Have had (4) 95' pine trees blown down on it, with minimal roof damage.
The trunks, when they hit the wire rope, stop dead
