Background; Vaguely remembered.
The RRs planted it extensively along their rights of way, thinking to
use it as steam engine fuel and ties.
During the depression it was widely promoted as " the world's fastest
growing hardwood" and many folks bought and planted it thinking they
were all but in the furniture business. It's allopathic (?)poisoning the
earth around it for many plants and creatures. They left the rest of the
evolved ecology back in Ossieland. The old trees unpredictably drop huge
limbs on whatever's below. It twists all over the place when cut into
lumber. Ought to make good forging charcoal in a closed retort, with euc
oil as a byproduct.
What's better than hickory for hammer handles?....pf
