Ack! Some of my numerous Vice-Grips(tm) are ca. 40 years old and show
no sign deterioration. [1] My Chinese-made $7 VGSOs
(vice-grip-shaped-objects) work but are unsatisfactory. My $3.50
VGSOs (only 2) had to be taken completely apart -- boring out the
rivets -- and reassembled with some hot-tweaking to work at all.

FWIW, the Canadian-made Matterhorn boots I like were variously
rebranded and eventually production was moved to China. Small and
hard to define decline in quality but they remain satisfactory overall.

[1] Excluding the pair that I forgot and left clamped to the hand brake
cable under a sports car. Two years later, I saw the car again
and recovered the Vice-Grips. A little rusty and ugly but they
    still work.
