[TheForge] Coal, propane, or charcoal?

I prefer charcoal as I make my own from scrap construction lumber with a 55
gal barrel.  I am not too fussy with any nails in the lumber which gives off
sparks when the charcoal is burning in the forge but I usually know how hot
my iron is getting unless I am demonstrating and get to talking.

I have heard Tom Latane' who is a wonderful master blacksmith has started
forging with just chunks of small wood.  I have seen enough of Tom's work to
know if it is good enough for him it would be 10 times good enough for me.
