My RV has a 7.5 KW Onan with a Kubota diesel engine. At times we run it
24/7 for days, only stopping it to check oil, etc. Drinks 0.4 gallons
per hour. The normal load under these conditions is 2 split system air
conditioners, plus lights, etc. No motors. All configurations are 120
volt but the genset is almost endlessly configurable. I've just never
messed with it. Many RV's have up to 20 KW gensets, esp those with
electric heat.
My Miller Trailblazer 302 (gas) welder puts out 11 KW but I think is a
little more thirsty. It has plugs for 240/120. Our power rarely goes
out for very long but I plan to go get it if we have a significant
outage for things like freezers, etc.

needed to run a household (typical, FWIW) plus a shop (TIG welder, misc.
machines, most that will not be run simultaneously, but a few that may).
