Mica/isinglass, even in its composite or synthetic forms,  is not the 
easiest stuff to work with.  requires setting in a frame like other glass. 
There is a heavy parchment made specifically for shades, which may be 
covered with just about any fabric you like to good effect.  I make a lot of 
floor lamps, and my shades are suppied by Linda at Barfield's Antiques in 
Brewster MASS.  She's a genius with shades of all kinds,  give her a call at 
175 Main Street, Yarmouth Port, MA (508 ) 362-4867.
