[TheForge] RE: Tarnished brass

This is good to hear. I have several boxes of 1/2" and 5/8th's" ball
bearings that I got from MCS I think, maybe from McCarr. I wasn't looking
forward to annealing all of them to make grape clusters.
Speaking of which, anyone have any ideas as to how this is easily done? I
had read about one method was to take a bowl of moist sand, and using my
hand make an indention to symbolize the front 1/2 of a grape cluster. Then
place the ball bearings in the indention and TIG them from behind.
Are there better ways?
Robert

>>Ron asks: I did anneal the bearing several times but does anyone actually
KNOW of a bearing exploding because of welding? <<

I've welded ball bearings to make spring fullers, and various other items.
I have never bothered to anneal and have never had one explode. Of course,
that doesn't mean it has never happened....
