No doubt I disagree with a lot of you about politics. However, if you
consider yourself an American you should get out there and vote.
There's no question this country needs a change. I know who I'm
supporting to make that change. I certainly hope that if the other
candidate gets in he, too, will make the necessary changes.
We've lost a lot in the past eight years. On the grounds of 9-11-01,
Bush invaded Afghanistan but failed to get Osama bin Laden. Then on
totally false pretenses of weapons of mass destruction he invaded the
wrong country where he continues to wage war against its people, at
incredible cost in dollars and lives. Last I discussed it with him, a
certain correspondent of this forum was of the considered opinion that
Bush will not leave office at the end of his term. Seems there's a
presidential proclamation in which he authorizes himself to take over.
(No joke.) This of course is completely consistent with a man who
instituted torture, using Guantanamo and foreign countries in an
attempt to skirt US law; a man who violated federal law by wiretapping
without court approval; a man who considers his appointment by the
Supreme Court and his "re"election by the slimmest majority ever
received by a war president to be a "mandate" for all this un-American
activity, who basically thinks God intervened to put him into the
White House.
If you have never read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" you may
not appreciate how parallel all of this is to Hitler's career - it's
scary. Ordinary Germans were little different then than ordinary
Americans are now, but a monster got in and took over their
government. We've come very close to that here, and we should never
let it happen again. Apathy favors the scoundrels. It is time
Americans stand up and really ELECT a new president. I hope the
candidate I favor wins, but whoever wins, I hope he has the balls to
set this country back on the right course.
