[TheForge] air hammer

25lb and 50lb little giants can be run on small, single phase motors.
Of the chinese (Striker, Anyang) or the Turkish (Saymak, Sahinler) or
even German hammers- most smaller ones can be ordered with single
phase motors- it usually costs $500 or so more, and is usually only
available up to about 5hp.
Beyond 5hp, almost everything is 3phase, but you can buy either a VFD
system, or a rotary phase converter, to run a 3 phase motor on single
phase.
Of course, it costs more.
The old american self contained, like Nazel and Chambersburg are all 3
phase originally, and most are too big to be run on single phase
motors, but can be used with phase converters.

Another option would be Utility hammers- these are air hammers that
are single cylinder, and need an air compressor.
Like the Iron Kiss, or the Big Blu, or many homemade models- they can
often run on a 5hp compressor, as long as you are not trying to run
them continuously.
Or you can gang two or more small single phase compressors.

Big motors are almost always 3 phase, as its cheaper and more
efficient to build em and run em.

Are any of the better quality hammers available with single phase
motors? I know they'll be smaller but single is all I'll have for
quite awhile.
